VolksWorld Show

At the weekend I took my self off to the VolksWorld Show down at Sandown Park, Easher.

The VolksWorld Show is a two day exhibition dedicated to the world of Volkswagens! They show mainly campervans and Beetle’s and they have some real classics on show.

To those of you who don’t know already I have a huge thing about VW split screen campervans!! My dream is that one day, in the not so distant future (I hope) I will have one of my very own!

I have been to a few VW events over the past few years such as Big Bang, Brighton Breeze and of course the VolksWorld Show. I love to see the camaraderie between VW owners and there is a big sense of community at all their events.

At The VolksWorld show they exhibit a range of vans and Beetle’s including those in preteen and mint condition as well as those that are not!

Most vans have a story to tell and have been lovingly brought back to life by their dedicated owners over a number of years. One such owner had a big sign saying that his van had cost him, a trip to hospital, lots of money, and his wife! These guys and gals are dedicated!

A few years ago I did a project at university on VW camper vans and below are some examples of the work I produced. Hope you like them!

Time for tea and cereal

Today I was food shopping when I came across the new Clipper Tea packaging designed by Big Fish. As soon as I saw them on the shelf I knew I had to buy a packet
(or two!).

It was the bold illustration and use of typography that caught my eye first. Then the use of colour really made me excited as they have chosen pastel shades to contrast against the naively illustrated silhouette of the tea cup and saucer.

Once home and in front of my laptop (with a nice cup of Clipper tea, i’ll add!) I set about finding out what else Big Fish had been up to. To my surprise they also designed the Dorset Cereals packaging, another design favorite of mine.

Again with this packaging design I love the colours used and also the die cut logo which appears on all their packaging.

In conclusion today was a visually exciting food shop!

Cubs the word at the Ideal Home Show

This weekend I was lucky enough to go along to the Ideal Home Show at Earls Court with the Top Left Design team. The show runs for a week and shows the very best of home-ware, interiors, gardening, home improvements and much more.

We spent a bit of time wandering around but one of the big attractions for me was the “Show Home Village” where Cub Housing Solutions were exhibiting 2 of there brand new homes. I was lucky enough to work on their website design at Top Left Design and we were all invited along to see the homes in real life.

For more information about Cub Housing Solutions visit their website.

The Big Apple

I recently came back from a trip to The Big Apple with my boyfriend! It was an amazing experience and one that I will remember for a long time to come.

I was my second time in New York but my boyfriends first. When I visited last it was for a field trip as part of my Degree in Illustration at Kingston University. It was on this tip that we had chance to draw in NY and capture all the delights of such a diverse city.

However, this time it was more of a holiday and sight seeing trip. We did all the things you would expect to do in New York, Empire State, Brooklyn Bridge, Jazz Bar, Central Park and also eat lots. We also tried to do some cultural things as well such as visit MOMA, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Natural History and The New York Public Library.

The trip was a great source of inspiration for me and I am hoping to do some work inspired by my trip soon!
