On the 4th day of Christmas my true love gave to me….

 Jimjam Designs

A selection of Jimjam Designs Christmas cards

I’m loving Jimjam’s cards this year. They’re fun, stylish and use lots of stitch embroidery. My favourite are the assorted fabric Christmas trees below. The simple shapes and subtle embellishments, whether it be beads, spotty fabric or silver cotton trunks, create colourful compositions on the felt and hessian backgrounds.

Jeff Josephine Designs

A delightful ceramic heart necklace by Jeff Josephine Designs

Sophie Elm is the ceramic designer and illustrator behind the work of Jeff Josephine Designs. We studied together on our foundation course and once finished, we then tootled on our separate ways to University. It was only in our final year that we bumped into one another again at D&AD.

Sophie’s work has developed since then, and she is now producing lots of illustrated ceramic wear such as tiles, cups and necklaces. As well as this, she has also illustrated 2 books, creates screen printed fabric designs, greeting cards and exhibits her work around the UK.

In this post I want to talk about her ceramic heart necklaces. They come in all kinds of patterns and no two are ever the same as she paints these by hand. They’d make perfect gifts, and I think they’d look great as Christmas tree decorations.

Take a look at some of Sophie’ designs below.

On the 2nd day of Christmas my true love gave to me….

Kirsty Elson Designs

A Kirsty Elson Mistletoe Robin

If you saw my blog post in the summer which featured Kirsty’s work, you may be familiar with her gorgeous drift wood greeting cards and handmade wall and celling hangings.

Below is a selection of her Christmas card range made from tiny pieces of wood, twigs, beads and fabric. The small pieces of drift wood, once carefully fitted together, create wonderful naive shapes which resemble robins, reindeers and Christmas puds.

As well as her Christmas cards, she has also been busy creating hanging decorations for the tree and fireplace. Here is a selection of her poker dot penguins, perched robins and patchwork Christmas trees.

On the 1st day of Christmas my true love gave to me….

Kate Slater Illustration

A beautiful ‘birdy broach’ made by the fabulous Kate Slater.

These vibrant ‘bird brooches’ would be a great gift for any feathery-friend fanatics. I was lucky enough to receive the ‘Waxwing Brooch’ for my birthday this year.

Kate Slater Illustration

Each ‘brooch’ is hand-made by Kate in her studio in Staffordshire and she has created a variety of birds from Parrots and Flamingoes to Owls and Kingfishers. The colours are amazing and her use of collage creates feathery textures galore!

Here are a few close up shots of some of my favourites.

As well as making these badges, Kate is also a brilliant illustrator, and you can see more of her work on her website. She also has an Etsy shop where you can have a gander at some of her latest Christmas gifts. Enjoy!

Car Art at Mercedes Benz World

This weekend we had a trip out to visit Mercedes Benz World in Brooklands, Surrey. On display there were some lovely retro Mercedes cars as well as some very cool concept cars. It was whilst moseying around the place I came across some wicked car art which I thought I would share.

As Mercedes have a F1 team there was a uber cool art piece call “View Suspended II – An Artwork” which was a hanging F1 car  made up of 3,200 precison engineered pieces all suspended from the celling. Standing back you could see the shape of the F1 car through the thousands of car parts that makes up this beast of a machine.

The piece was created by Dutch artist Paul Veroude and curated by Artwise Curators.

I also found this really colourful Mercedes 220a. The piece is called “Beguiling lines and lotus blossom” and was painted by Hiro Yamagata who was inspired by the curvaceous car body.

Rustic doors in Crete

I’ve just come back from my jols in Crete, Greece. While I was there we visited a few old towns. When walking around the windy streets I found these cute little rustic doors in differrnt shades of greens, blues and turquoise. It reminded me of the “Beach huts in Bournemouth” post I did a few weeks ago so I took some pics and thought I’d blog about them once I retuned.

Here you go…

Beach huts at Bournemouth

Check out these rainbow coloured beach huts on Bournemouth’s sea front! They’re a far cry from the traditional wooden huts you see around Britain’s coastline.

Each hut has a different shade and reminds me of Dulux colour cards which you can find in DIY shops.

Take a look at them in all their glory (in the fantastic October sun we had!)
